The first house on
the site of the Christiania was built in 1914. It
was successively a dairy, a haberdasher's shop and
a small guest-house.
In 1953 it was bought by Mr. Nopper, who came from
Baden-Baden in the Black Forest and was assistant
manager of the Palace Hotel in Gstaad.

With the help of his wife, Mrs. Liselotte Lappert
from Schoren in Langenthal, he made it into the
first 'bed and breakfast' hotel in Gstaad. lt
had ten beds and was called the «Christiania».

After leaving the Palace Hotel, Mr. and Mrs.
Nopper took over the management of the Hotel Ermitage
& Golf in Schönried but continued to
run the Christiania in an impeccable manner. In
1978, Mrs. Nopper, by now a widow, had the Christiania
completely rebuilt in traditional chalet style,
increasing the number of beds to 40 and adding
a restaurant. She ran it with her daughter, Isabelle,
and turned it into the smallest 4-star hotel in
Gstaad.
In 1982 Isabelle Nopper married Nagy Gabriel
Geadah, an Egyptian of Lebanese origin.
Isabelle Geadah is the chef and supervises the
kitchen; she is also responsible for marketing
activities. Nagy is in charge of the restaurant
and the reception desk.
The restaurant serves a wide variety of delicious
food in an elegant and intimate atmosphere. Since
1990 the menu has included typical Egyptian dishes.
